Where does it all go?

After a long time away, I’m feeling inspired and back on it. Look at those beeaauutiful bubbles. 🍞 Whilst at sea, we had to be so mindful of what we did with our waste - not only because we were sailing through millions of fragments of plastic waste (!) but because we had to carry it onboard with us for three weeks. It was a great way of reminding me about how little I understand my waste and recycling at home (I try! I really try!). But also that I go through good patches and lazy patches when it comes to cleaning my packaging and trying really hard to make it as easy to recycle for those collecting it as possible. I spoke at a @colchester_greenparty event on Monday about our plastics expedition alongside @replastic_uk Katie. Aside from talking about their brilliant initiative, she had some depressing facts about how contaminated packaging is priced on weight once it’s cleaned which can mean that companies recycling in the UK can end up losing money vs unwashed packaging that is shipped abroad and potentially not recycled at all. We need a complete overhaul in how our food is packaged and how our waste infrastructure is organised but, in the meantime, I’m going to have a big push on taking out the packaging of my food where I can in the first place. @kilneruk@exxpedition_ #bread #sourdough #food#shopping #waste #reducereuserecycle#recycle #uk #colchester #baking #home#packagefree #plasticfree #organic#packaging #expedition #northpacific#pacific #marinedebris #ocean#oceanplastic #marineplastic#microplastics #singleuse#noexcuseforsingleuse #saynotoplastic#artisan #artisanbread#beatplasticpollution #cleanseas
