EVERYDAY SUPERHEROES #6 - The Glitter Gang ⚡️🌈✨⚡️ These guys and their classmates LOVE Ecostardust biodegradable glitter made from plant cellulose (the main ingredient is eucalyptus trees from sustainably farmed non-GMO plantations) instead of plastic. It's the glitteriest of glitter and as a glitter-lover (I'm a Leo, festival-glitter-loving queen crafter) I was devastated to find out that the glitter I was washing down the sink is essentially a microplastic. Microplastics are fragments of plastic less than 5mm in length. Their size makes them an appealing - and dangerous - food item for many water-based creatures. Marine animals from plankton to whales have been documented eating plastic and microplastics enter our own food chain as we eat seafood. One study reported that plastic was found in one third of fish caught in the English Channel. Glitter is great but not at any cost. Unless it's the brilliantly biodegradable stuff. Knock yourself out with that! If you have kids at nursery or at school, ask what kind they're using and urge them to make the switch if they haven't already.
